Ewe-Hsuen’s Wish

“I wish to have a video magnifier to help me study!”

15-year-old Ewe-Hsuen is an incredibly sweet girl living with Loeys-Dietz syndrome. Her favourite hobby is listening to music and singing.

During her wish interview, Ewe-Hsuen told our wish granters that she does not want anything except to excel in what she does best – her studies. Recently, she had a retinal detachment that left her right eye slightly blind and made it even harder for her to study as she would require a magnifier to read well. When we asked her what her one true wish, Ewe-Hsuen knew exactly what she wanted – to have a video magnifier to help her study.

With her O-Level Chinese examination coming up, we wanted to surprise her with a TOPAZ video magnifier that would help her with reading and studying.

Her wish day started out with a karaoke and buffet session with her family and two close friends at Cineleisure. She was pleasantly surprised and elated as she shared that it was her first time at the karaoke with her family. After the singing session, Ewe-Hsuen headed home where our wish granters prepared her next surprise. She was overjoyed when our wish granters surprised her with her new video magnifier and a cake as she walked through the door. She was beyond thrilled and couldn’t contain her excitement. She began setting up the machine that night and started using it to read one her favourite poem from school.

When a wish is granted, it does much more than bring joy to a child’s life. For wish kids like Ewe-Hsuen, a wish-come-true provides them with improved quality of life and the strength to battle through and hope for healthier, happier days ahead.
